The Purpose of Omega Phi Alpha
OPA has three cardinal principles--friendship, leadership, and service

FRIENDSHIP:    Through OPA, members make friendships that last a lifetime.  We are here for each other, whether it is to celebrate an exciting event or to offer a shoulder to cry on.

LEADERSHIP:    OPA offers each sister a chance to develop her leadership skills.  Active members elect the executive board each Spring.  There are also a wide variety of chairperson positions available to challenge the sisters.  In this way, sisters can develop their leadership potential at their own pace, always knowing that the chapter is behind them 100%!!  Even as pledges, OPA sisters are given an opportunity to become better leaders.  The pledges elect their own set of officers, who in turn appoint their own committee chair people.

SERVICE:    OPA sisters share a common goal - that of serving the university community, community-at-large, members of the sorority, and the nations of the world.  Each active sister is required to participate in at least 5 service projects over the course of a semester. This usually amounts to about 25 hours per semester for actives, and 30 hours per semester for pledges.  Service projects include Still Creek Boys Ranch/Girls Ranch, Brazos Valley Food Bank, Adopt-a-Highway, Big Event, Replant, Working with local Girl Scouts, Breast & Skin Cancer Awareness, Habitat for Humanity, and Ronald McDonald House (just to name a few).
