Becoming a Member
Membership in Dance Arts Society (DAS) is open to all Texas A&M University and Blinn students, faculty, and community members over the age of 18. No previous Dance experience is required.
Dues
Each member shall pay semester dues of $40 or yearly dues of $70 by 2nd showing and remain in good standing at all times. Dance classes are free for the first week. Thereafter, students must pay dues in order to continue taking dance lessons with DAS. All memberships are final. No refunds will be issued.
Attendance
For members not
auditioning to perform in the show, attendance at all meetings is
optional. For members auditioning for the show and performing in the
show, all DAS functions are absolutely required with the exception of
general meeting and first showing. Exceptions will be made for
circumstances equivalent to a University Excused Absence or
job/interview* commitment that directly conflicts with scheduled
activities. Members must contact the president and choreographer prior
to missing the activity.
Choreographers have the option to either remove members who fail to
notify the choreographer and president prior to the mandatory meeting or
drop their piece from the show.
Removal Procedures for Members
Membership and
participation in Dance Arts Society is a privilege. Defamation or
disrespect of the organization or its members at a DAS function
(including classes, rehearsals, showings and performances) can lead to
revoked membership of Dance Arts Society. Any member that has not payed
dues by 2nd showing, has 1 unexcused absence to a mandatory meeting, or
is poorly representing or defaming DAS or any of its members enough to
cause negative consequences to the society's reputation and that of its
members may be removed from membership from the organization.
Members are to be informed in advance of these expectations. Should a
member fail to pay dues by 2nd showing or is found poorly representing
Dance Arts, they shall be given an opportunity to account for their
behavior to the officers and advisors in the form of a letter. They will
review the situation of the member in question and a decision will be
made expeditiously and the member will be contacted as to the outcome of
the situation.
